SOLAR / HOMEOWNER GUIDE

Solar monitoring plans: who actually responds when something goes wrong?

A chart on your phone is useful. Someone noticing a problem and helping resolve it is a different service. Know which one you are buying.

Start with what you already have.

List the app access, alerts and support included with your equipment or installation. Ask a proposed monitoring provider to explain what it adds. Paying again for a familiar dashboard may not solve the problem you actually care about: noticing faults without constantly checking the app yourself.

Ask who is watching and how often.

Does software send alerts automatically, does a person review them, or both? Ask what triggers an alert and how the provider evaluates a sustained production change. Request the review frequency and response hours in writing. A general promise to “keep an eye on it” does not tell you what will happen.

Follow an alert all the way to a repair.

Who contacts you? Who decides whether a technician is needed? Does the provider arrange that visit or simply tell you to find an installer? Ask whether it supports your equipment brand and property location. A quick alert and a quick repair are different commitments.

Read the exclusions before the subscription price.

Identify charges for diagnosis, travel, equipment, electrical labor and roof access. If a protection product is offered, ask who provides it, which events are covered, and what limits or claim approval rules apply. Do not assume a monitoring subscription includes a warranty, insurance or free repairs.

Check the exit as carefully as the signup.

Look for the minimum term, renewal method, cancellation notice and any separate hardware charges. Ask whether you retain your own monitoring access and can export production history. Clarify who owns installed communication equipment and whether another provider can take over support.

Choose the help you will actually use.

Ongoing review may be useful if you rarely check production or want someone to follow up on alerts. If you already review your system and have responsive service support, the added value may be smaller. Compare responsibilities, not just the number of reports. We do not operate a monitoring subscription or watch your system continuously.

Questions before you take the next step.

Is monitoring the same as solar maintenance?

No. A plan can track data without including physical inspection, cleaning or repair. Read the actual task list and exclusions.

Does a monitoring plan guarantee savings?

Do not assume that. Ask about any specific performance promise and its remedy. Reports and alerts alone are not a savings guarantee.

Keep the next decision clear.

Someone in your corner

Let’s talk through the next step.

Bring your plans, questions or the bid you already have. We step in to organize the details and coordinate with contractors, so you spend less time repeating yourself. Optional $499 Full Advocacy adds comparison, negotiation and one local visit when needed. We’ll explain the help available before you commit.

Tell us what’s happening and what you’ve been told. We’ll explain whether we can help before arranging the next step.

The initial conversation is free. Contractor diagnosis, service visits and repairs may carry separate charges. Provider availability and project fit must be confirmed.
