Avoid a gap between two contractors.

Tell both bidders which equipment is installed and why it needs to be moved. Ask who handles electrical shutdown, removal, storage, roof attachments and system restart. A roofer’s proposal may not include solar work, and a solar proposal may exclude roof repairs.

Check the existing agreements first.

Review ownership, financing or lease terms and contact the relevant system provider about modifications. Ask how product and workmanship warranties will be handled. Do not assume another company can alter the installation without affecting a service agreement.

Put the sequence on paper.

Request a plan for removal, roofing, inspection where required and restarting and testing the system. Ask what happens if roof work takes longer or components need replacement. Get possible extra costs and approval responsibilities in writing so a delay does not leave you with surprise charges.

If you hire a participating contractor, they pay us a disclosed fixed success fee after you sign their agreement and they receive your initial deposit. You choose, hire and pay the contractor directly. Their fee is not added to your agreed contract price and does not change it. Savings are not guaranteed.

Can the roofer simply move the panels?

Confirm the required qualifications and responsibilities with both contractors. Electrical and solar work should be assigned to appropriately qualified providers.

Document the system before anyone removes a panel.

Ask the solar provider to save recent production records, equipment details and any existing faults before removal. Agree on safe storage, responsibility for damaged parts, roof-attachment work and any coordination with the roofer. A pre-existing problem should not get lost inside the reroofing job.

Get a proper handback after reinstallation.

Request the contractor’s completion checks and confirmation that monitoring is reporting again. Ask how production will be assessed after the work, allowing for weather and seasonal differences rather than expecting an identical daily number. Keep the before-and-after records and a named contact for any unresolved issue.
